The Home Screen
The home screen is your board library: from here you open boards, create new ones, arrange, duplicate, delete, and send. The boards are organized into categories, and at the top there's a search box that finds any board — including by the words inside it.
Locking the home screen
Every time the app opens, the home screen opens locked — so that whoever uses the boards to communicate can't delete or change anything by accident. In locked mode you can only open boards and use them.
To unlock, give a long press on the Edit mode button (the lock) in the corner — hold until the button fills up. A short tap only shows a reminder: "The home screen is locked to prevent accidental changes".
Once unlocked, all the management options appear: creating a board, renaming, duplicating, deleting, and more. To lock again — one short tap on the button. If you've set a lock code, tapping the button immediately opens the code dialog, and unlocking is only possible after entering the correct code.
Board categories
The boards are arranged in categories, in this order:
Boards received from professionals
If a speech-language pathologist or another professional has sent you boards, they appear first, in a separate category for each sender (for example "Boards from Dana"). These boards are available for viewing and use only — for changes, contact whoever sent them. You can rename the category (the pencil icon), refresh it with the Refresh button to pull in new boards, and in edit mode — tapping a board opens a menu with Duplicate to my boards.
My boards
All the boards you've created or duplicated. This is also where the New board button lives, which leads to Creating a Board. Dragging a board with a long press changes the order of the boards in the category.
Emorli boards
Ready-to-use boards built by professional speech-language pathologists, included with the app. They can't be edited directly — if you want to make changes, duplicate a board into "My boards" (in edit mode: tap the board and choose Duplicate) and edit the copy.
Template boards
Base boards that serve as a starting point for creating new boards. When you create a new board from a template, all of its cells are copied to the new board. Editing a template doesn't affect boards already created from it.
Special boards
Boards with special functionality — like the Hebrew keyboard board that lets you type words freely.
Tapping a category's title closes or opens it, and the state is remembered — even after closing and reopening the app. The question-mark icon next to each title shows a short explanation of the category.
Folders and board borders
In edit mode, organize My boards and templates into folders:
- In the category header choose Add → Create folder, enter a Folder name, choose a color and Save. A board picker opens immediately to fill the new folder.
- Add more later using the + on the folder card or Add boards in its expanded header. Select one or several boards and confirm. You can also drag a board onto a folder; the Move into folder highlight confirms the drop action.
- The folder card previews up to nine contained boards. Tap it to slide its boards into the category below the folder's row, without hiding the other boards. Tap the same card again to fold them away. This also works while home is locked.
- Use the pencil Folder name and color in the expanded header to rename or recolor it. Delete folder removes only the folder — its boards remain outside folders.
Dragging a folder reorders it; it never nests it in another folder. Drag a board onto another board to reorder, or onto a folder to move it inside. Ordering within each folder is independent. Tap a board and choose Remove from folder to move it out, or Move to folder to choose another destination. All board actions share the same tap menu; there is no separate three-dot menu. Folders cannot contain folders. Search also finds boards inside folders.
To highlight a regular board, tap it and choose Board border in the same actions menu, select a color and Save. This adds a thick border around its library card without changing tiles or the board background. No border removes it.
Names, colors, membership and order are saved offline and shared across devices through sync. The same controls are available in a patient workspace. Received boards and Emorli boards display the folders and borders set for them; recipients cannot edit that organization. A board duplicated to My boards keeps its border and appears outside folders.
Searching for boards
The Search boards... box at the top of the screen starts searching from the second character. The search finds boards by their name — and also by the words inside the boards: if you search for "banana", boards that contain a "banana" tile appear too, even if the board's name is different. Results that match by name are shown first.
Board actions
In edit mode (screen unlocked), tapping a board in the "My boards" category opens an actions menu (and a long press skips the menu and opens the board directly for editing):
- Open board — opens the board.
- Rename — a new name for the board.
- Set as opening board — the board opens automatically every time the app starts, instead of the home screen. The chosen board is marked with a rocket badge, and its menu shows Remove opening board instead — removing it makes the app open on the home screen again. For Emorli boards, the special boards and received boards, the option lives under Board settings in the board's menu (see Board Settings), and it can also be managed from the settings screen.
- Duplicate — creates a copy (named "... (copy)") that you can edit freely.
- Send to patients — appears if you manage patients; sends the board straight to their devices (see Sharing and Collaboration).
- Delete — removes the board, after confirmation.
Multi-select
To delete or send several boards at once, tap Multi-select in the "My boards" title (only in edit mode). Mark boards with a tap, or use Select all / Clear selection — then choose Delete or Send to patients in the bar at the bottom of the screen. Cancel exits the mode without doing anything.
Messages and updates
- When the Emorli team publishes an important message, a red Message icon (a loudspeaker) appears at the top of the screen. Tapping it opens the message.
- When a new version of the app is out, a "A new version is available" banner appears at the top of the screen with an Update button. You can close it — it will appear again the next time the app opens, as long as you haven't updated.
